Fiona Tan

5 April to 29 May - FREE ADMISSION

The first major solo exhibition by acclaimed international artist Fiona Tan. Born in Indonesia in 1966 and now living in Amsterdam, Tan’s film works have been included in key exhibitions across the world. Tan’s major themes are identity, memory and the perception of cultural difference.

The exhibition at MAO presents for the first time in the UK the multi-channel film work Countenance, one of the highlights of Documenta XI in Kassel in 2002. Also included is the film News from the Near Future (2003), presented at the Istanbul Biennial in 2003, and Vox Populi (2004), a new photographic installation that captures key moments in the lives of more than one hundred families over several generations.

The exhibition is organised by Modern Art Oxford and accompanied by a new book on Tan’s work with an essay by art historian and critic Mark Godfrey.
