Encounters: Moshekwa Langa
Homeland
17 July to 23 September - FREE ADMISSION
Encounters is a new programme of exhibitions in the Lower Gallery, displays at our partner schools and in the community, and special projects and events. Our aim is to inspire more people to enjoy and engage with contemporary art. Modern Art Oxford’s partner schools are Oxford Community School, Rose Hill Primary School and Windale Community Primary School.
In his first solo exhibition in the UK, Moshekwa Langa will be exhibiting colour photographs and a short film made during visits to where he grew up in South Africa. Exploring memory, time and place, Langa’s works have an evocative, spectral quality.
Born in Bakenberg, South Africa in 1975, Langa studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam from 1997 to 1998. His work has been included in a number of major solo and international group exhibitions, including Snap Judgments: New Positions in Contemporary African Photography curated by Okwui Enwezor, New York, 2006. Moshekwa Langa lives and works in Amsterdam.
