MODERN ART OXFORD TO STAR IN FIVEARTS CITIES PROGRAMME
June 2006
Modern Art Oxford is to be the subject of a television programme about the visual arts in Oxford. Just as Five’s acclaimed ‘The Singing Estate’ has brought national attention to music on Blackbird Ley’s estate, the new programme will highlight the visual arts, presenting a day in the life of the Gallery.
Renowned arts presenter and broadcaster Tim Marlow will go behind the scenes as exhibitions by international contemporary artists, Kerry James Marshall and Daniel Buren are installed in the galleries and opened to the public. The programme will include interviews with the artists, the Director of Modern Art Oxford Andrew Nairne and highlights from the Gallery’s lively community and education programme. Filming will take place throughout the summer and autumn of 2006.
Fivearts Cities is a national partnership between Five and Arts Council England designed to bring art to new audiences and encourage as many people as possible to become involved in arts activities. This is done via television programmes showing different aspects of the arts – like ‘The Singing Estate’, (shown recently on Sunday nights on Five) that inspire people to try something new in their own area – and actual events that allow people to take part and enjoy new experiences. Fivearts Cities events in Oxford, co-ordinated by Modern Art Oxford, will take place from July 2006 to March 2007.
Andrew Nairne, Director of Modern Art Oxford said “We are delighted to be part of this major initiative which we hope will provide many opportunities for people to engage with the visual arts, as well as giving us the chance to draw attention to the exciting projects MAO is currently involved with.”
Five will film the opening of forthcoming exhibition Kerry James Marshall: Along the Way on Tuesday 25 July 2006 with the artist in conversation with Tim Marlow at 5.30pm. For details visit www.modernartoxford.org.uk
