THE OXFORD OPEN: CALL FOR ENTRIES

OCTOBER 2007

Sponsored by The Oxford Times

“In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes.” Andy Warhol

Would you like to see your art displayed in a major gallery? Modern Art Oxford is inviting local artists to participate in THE OXFORD OPEN, an exhibition celebrating the diversity of artistic talent in the City.

THE OXFORD OPEN is an exciting opportunity for all artists, aged 18 or over, who live or work in or near Oxford. Art works in any medium can be submitted but must be able to be displayed within 1 square metre of wall or 1 cubic metre of floor space, in the case of sculpture.

While there is no selection for inclusion in THE OXFORD OPEN, the Gallery organisers are planning all kinds of activities to encourage visitors to the exhibition to think about which works they like most and why.

Andrew Nairne, Director, and Suzanne Cotter, Senior Curator, commented:

“We want to create an inclusive exhibition that reflects the incredible range of creative and imaginative talent that we know exists within the Oxford art community. We hope this new approach will stimulate interest and discussion about art throughout the City.”

Artists’ works will be accepted between 8am and 8pm on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 December 2007. The exhibition runs from 12 January to 17 February 2008. For full details, guidelines and conditions of participation please see the submission packs downloadable from www.modernartoxford.org.uk or available from the Gallery’s front desk.

During the Open, Oxford artist Helen Ganly has been invited to present a solo exhibition in the Lower Gallery.

THE OXFORD OPEN and Helen Ganly’s exhibition will be followed by two, week-long exhibitions of work by students from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, 23 February to 2 March, and the Fine Art Department of Oxford Brookes University, 8 to 16 March.
