David Isaac (Chair)
Appointed July 1995, retirement date January 2011 – reappointed for further three year period.
David Isaac is a partner in international law firm, Pinsent Masons. He is a commercial lawyer based in London and is well known for advising Government on its large commercial and IT contracts.
In his spare time David is involved in a number of charities. He is the Chair of Stonewall, a human rights charity, involved in achieving equality and justice for lesbians and gay men. Under his Chairmanship, Stonewall has successfully lobbied for a number of key pieces of legislation, including the removal of section 28 and the introduction of Civil Partnerships.
He is also Chair of Modern Art Oxford, one of the leading visual arts galleries in the UK. The gallery has been in existence for nearly 50 years and during this time it has pioneered the promotion of the work of rising, as well as established, artists internationally. Through its education and outreach activities it is committed to extending its work beyond the strict confines of the gallery.
David is also a trustee of the Diana Princess of Wales Fund. Following the death of the Princess of Wales, the Fund was established to promote various charitable activities. The charity is actively involved in supporting palliative care initiatives in Africa and David chairs the palliative care advisory group. The fund also supports a wide range of other projects to support children and young people in the UK. The campaign in the UK particularly focuses on the children of refugees and asylum seekers.
Hussein Barma (Treasurer)
Appointed July 1995, retirement date January 2011 – reappointed for further three year period.
Hussein has been Chief Financial Officer (United Kingdom) of Antofagasta plc since 1998, a Chilean-based mining group listed on the London Stock Exchange and a constituent of the FTSE-100 index since 2004. He is a chartered accountant and barrister, having previously worked in audit practice with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has a doctorate in corporate law from the University of Oxford. He is also a non-executive director of Oxford Islamic Finance Limited and Modern Art Oxford.
Robert Rickman (Chair of Finance & Property Sub committee)
Appointed January 2005, retirement date** January 2012.
Robert is a company director specialising in business development and fund raising for technology and asset backed businesses. He is a partner of Rockley Fund Managers investing in technology based businesses in the UK and China. From 1984 to 1999 he was director of FIM services Ltd, a forestry investment management firm operating mainly in the UK and New Zealand. He is or has been a director of two AIM quoted forest owning companies. He was a board member of Bookham Technology PLC. (now Oclaro Inc., NASDAQ: OCLR), one of the world’s largest fibre optics telecom component producers from 1994 until 2004.
Diana Parker
Appointed May 2008, retirement date** January 2013.
Diana Parker is a solicitor specialising in family law. She has recently stepped down as Chairman of law firm Withers LLP after 8 years in that role which saw the firm expand significantly with the opening of offices in Milan, Geneva, New York and Connecticut.
Diana is a Trustee of the Institute for Philanthropy and Common Purpose and is a Governor of London South Bank University.
A graduate of Cambridge University where she also took a Masters degree in criminology, Diana is married to John Landers, Principal of Hertford College, Oxford. She divides her time between Oxford and London.
Amanda Poole
Appointed May 2008, retirement date** January 2013.
Amanda is a Director in Partners in Retail. She is a strategic consultant with experience across a range of retail and related sectors, from corporate to government, and financial services to charities.
She specialises in advising companies entering new sectors or geographic markets, focusing on concept development, business planning and funding. Her work ranges from strategic analysis to more practical support such as establishing distribution channels, brand marketing and finding the necessary resources and support services.
Amanda also works with companies in transition, advising on change management, as well as with banks and venture capitalists on due diligence projects.
She started out in the corporate sector with J Sainsbury and Bankers Trust (now Deutsche Bank). Prior to co-founding Partners in Retail Amanda was a Director of Poole Associates and was an executive director of Management Horizons Europe.
Amanda has a degree in Economics from UCL.
Rosie Millard
Appointed February 2010.
Rosie Millard is a journalist and broadcaster. She was the BBC's Arts Correspondent from 1995-2004, during which period she reported on key arts stories for television and radio across Britain and abroad, covering cultural events such as the construction and opening of Tate Modern, the Oscars, the arrival of the National Lottery and the highs and lows of the British film industry. She went on to be a feature writer for The Sunday Times, Arts Editor of the New Statesman and a theatre critic.
Her book on British contemporary art The Tastemakers (T&H) was published in 2001. She currently writes on interior design for The Daily Telegraph and contemporary culture for the Financial Times' Saturday Magazine. She is a prolific broadcaster and can be heard on Radio 4, Five Live, Radio 2 and Sky Arts. She lives in London.
Kirsty MacDonald
Appointed March 2010.
Kirsty MacDonald is a fundraiser with over 18 years experience raising funds for the arts and higher education in North America and the UK. She is currently working at the University of Oxford running a £50m campaign for Wadham College and has also worked at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. She has also worked for London Business School, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, English National Opera, and Glyndebourne.
Kirsty has an Honours BA from the University of Toronto.
Jack Kirkland
Appointed December 2010.
After reading history at Christ Church, Oxford, Jack studied law at BPP Law School and worked for the City law firm Lovells. He then worked in real estate and investments with the Abstract Group of Companies before becoming a director of Bowmer & Kirkland, one of the largest privately held construction companies in the UK. He also acts as a consultant to Hinde Capital, a group of precious metals and equity hedge funds. A former trustee of the Sick Children's Trust, in addition to Modern Art Oxford, Jacks also sits on the Latin American and Photography Acquisitions Committees of Tate.
