Venue hire

Modern Art Oxford presents a striking, contemporary space at the heart of historic Oxford for your company to host exclusive events for promotions, launches and receptions, for staff or clients.

  • Why choose Modern Art Oxford for your event?
Housed in an old brewery building, Modern Art Oxford provides a distinctive and unique venue for private events throughout the year. Up to eight temporary, contemporary art exhibitions every year offer an ever-changing and original backdrop for corporate entertaining and private functions including receptions, presentations, product launches, breakfast meetings and private views. As a registered UK charity, your hire directly helps our ongoing fundraising efforts.
  • When is the Gallery available for hire?
Spaces are available to hire on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 6pm. The venue is also available to hire all day on Mondays when we are closed to the public.
  • Which spaces are available for hire?
We offer a highly flexible Basement space (which previously housed the Gallery café), which can be designed to accommodate drinks receptions, launches and presentations. In addition, the exhibitions in the lower gallery space and the upper galleries can be made accessible to your guests at an additional cost (although food and drink are not permitted in these spaces). Private curator-led tours of the current exhibitions can be arranged as part of your event to create a unique experience for your guests; these would be charged at an additional cost.
  • What is the capacity for the Basement space?
The Basement space can accommodate up to 100 people standing and 60 people seated.
  • Can we hire the galleries for a private exhibition?
Modern Art Oxford organise and curate up to eight temporary exhibitions each year. We regret that our gallery spaces are not available to hire for external groups or individuals.
  • Can we host a fundraising or ticketed event at MAO?
We regret, as a charity ourselves, we are unable to hire out the venue for other fundraising activities. As we also offer free admission to all our exhibitions we are unable to hire the venue for ticketed events unless we work in partnership with the organisation.
  • Do you have recommended caterers?
Yes, we are happy to supply contact details for our preferred local caterers who offer a professional service and are familiar with our venue.
  • Will there be staff onsite to answer any queries we may have during the event?
Two members of Gallery staff will be available during your event to assist with any venue related enquiries you may have.
  • Is it possible to provide AV equipment and technical support?
Technical support and AV equipment is available at an extra cost. This can be arranged at the time of booking.

We are very happy to work with you to tailor the event for your specific needs and requirements.
