Katie Paterson named among 'best new artists in Britain'

18.10.2010 : Verity Slater

Congratulations to artist Katie Paterson, who is among four young artists named by the Observer newspaper as the 'best new artists in Britain'. Richard Wentworth, Tacita Dean, Yinka Shonibare and Cornelia Parker were asked to choose the young artist they find most promising. Cornelia Parker selected Katie Paterson:

'Katie Paterson is an astronomical artist – in the fullest sense of the word. The sky is not the limit for her. It is a beginning. Her champion Cornelia Parker describes her as someone who can "take you out of your realm … she is so original, engaging and expansive – I fell in love with her and her work. She makes us realise how inconsequential we are in relation to the universe."

Katie exhibited Vatnajökull (the sound of) and Earth-Moon-Earth (Moonlight Sonata Reflected from the Surface of the Moon) at Modern Art Oxford in 2008, in her first solo exhibition in a UK public gallery.
