Self Made

Gillian Wearing

26.01.2012 at 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Modern Art Oxford

Dir. Gillian Wearing, UK, 2010, 84 mins

If you were to play a part in a film, would you be yourself or a fictional character?

Artist Gillian Wearing posed this question to the public. From the hundreds of people who responded, seven were selected to appear in Self Made. The film follows the participants through method acting workshops, where they draw from real life experiences to explore their fantasy selves. The results are harrowing, blurring the boundaries between art, documentary and fiction.

The screening will be followed by a discussion led by George Peck, President of the Oxford School of Drama and Melanie Pocock, Exhibitions Associate at Modern Art Oxford.
