For the second in a series of new commissions for The Yard,
Simon & Tom Bloor draw on influences from across art,
design and architecture.

Hit and Miss is an installation containing a number of elements that explore municipal urban and suburban architecture and landscape design, drawing on familiar structural forms from Britain’s much-maligned post-war developments. Painted wooden ‘hit and miss’ style fencing is used in a variety of ways: as a maze-like screening structure, as a means to create intimate resting spaces within The Yard and as a support for other new works.

Sitting somewhere between a garden park and interior
lobby, Hit and Miss also offers a further element – a series
of works on paper based on a selection of posters from
Modern Art Oxford’s archive. Re-imagining posters for group
and solo exhibitions that included artworld luminaries such as
Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Carl Andre and Dan Graham, the
Bloors’ posters playfully reflect their interest in appropriation,
printed media and nostalgia.

To accompany the show, a film programme selected by
the artists will be shown in our Basement space during
Gallery hours.
