Les Demoiselles de Rochefort

29.04.2010 at 7:00 PM – 9:10 PM

Art in Rose Hill

Selected by Maria Pask to accompany her exhibition. Stylish and joyously exuberant, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort has been a major influence on artist Maria Pask and dance moves from the film are often incorporated into her work. Set over one weekend in a pastel-painted Rochefort, the story revolves around various characters involved in a search for love and happiness. The film stars real-life sisters Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac as twins whose provincial boredom evaporates when the carnival (including Gene Kelly) shows up.

"A luminous musical about dreams, romance and destiny which lovingly reworks the classic Hollywood ‘putting on a show’ template into an essay on the emotional rollercoaster ride that is movie-going" Time Out.
