brook & black

Plot 16: The Fermenting Room

17.12.2010 at 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM

Art in Rose Hill

brook & black were appointed artists-in-residence on Plot 16 in March 2010 as part of our Art in Rose Hill programme. The brook & black residency is the first major commission for the allotment.

Having spent time in the Gallery’s archive researching the history of the building, originally a brewery in the 1800s, brook & black began to grow hops on Plot 16 with the ambition of producing a dedicated beer from the crop. After a communal hop picking session in September, the fresh hops were sent to The Shotover Brewing Company to create a limited edition green hops beer, Plot 16: The Fermenting Room.

Art in Rose Hill was launched in 2007. Thanks to a major grant from The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the programme continues until 2011.
