A Journey to Avebury

Dir. Derek Jarman, UK, 1971, 10 mins

Shot on Super-8 film, A Journey to Avebury takes viewers on a magical journey to the eponymous megalithic stone circle in Wiltshire. The film illustrates pioneering British director and artist Derek Jarman’s unique approach to filmmaking, fusing intense bursts of colour with footage of the rural landscape.

Sleep Furiously (U)

Dir. Gideon Koppel, UK, 2008, 94 mins

Sleep Furiously is a bittersweet ode to Ceredigion, the Welsh farming community where director Gideon Koppel’s parents took refuge from the Nazi regime. The film shows a landscape and population in the throes of modernisation, coping with the transition from small-scale agriculture to mechanised farming.
