Hop Fest, Saturday 3 September 2011, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Concluding one and a half years as artists-in-residence on Plot 16 allotment, brook & black and Modern Art Oxford present a celebration event for The Fermenting Room. Join us on the allotment to hear poetry from Matt Black with Bruno Guastalla on cello, music from the Horns of Plenty and Plot 16 beer made from hops grown on the allotment. Hop Fest takes place around brook & black’s hop-covered 25 foot high sculpture; the outline of which reflects the architecture of Modern Art Oxford, a building that was once a brewery. Ticket includes a bottle of Plot 16 beer.
The Fermenting Room: Return of the Rhizome
December saw the launch of Plot 16: The Fermenting Room; a limited edition green hop beer and this, whilst still being on sale in Modern Art Oxford’s Café and Shop, marked the end of Phase One of the residency for brook & black. The artists have now installed the sculpture that begins Phase Two of their residency. The sculpture follows the architectural outline of Modern Art Oxford, a building that itself was once a brewery – brook & black’s work superimposes onto Plot 16 part of the history of the Gallery.
‘The plants will climb over the 25ft high x 30ft long, temporary metal sculpture. As the months progress, definitions, edges and borders will become confused, destabilised by the unpredictable energy of plant growth‘ brook & black.
The structure is taking shape. Follow the progress here or come along to one of the Open Sundays...
Come and visit us on Plot 16 to see the sculpture as it becomes overgrown with hops. The artists will be at the allotment to welcome visitors on the following Sundays between 2pm and 4pm: 8 May, 5 June and 3 July.
Please note the allotment is only open to visitors when the artists are on site.
