Waste Land

26.08.2011 at 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Modern Art Oxford

Dir. Lucy Walker, Brazil/UK, 2011, 99 mins (Cert. PG)

Waste Land follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest rubbish dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of ‘catadores’ – self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. His collaboration with these inspiring characters reveals the dignity of the catadores as they begin to re-imagine their lives. From the makers of City of God and featuring music by Moby.
