The summer season at Modern Art will shortly come to a close, but first join us for our season finale Yard Party featuring live music from jazz / soul singer Laura Capillaire, Oxford bands The Graceful Slicks and Echo Boomer, and Oxford DJ betamigos. Kicking off the evening is Laura Capillaire, whose experience includes soloing for Oxford Gospel Choir and performing backing vocals for Supergrass amongst a wealth of live and recording work. Laura will bring her soulful voice to The Yard and open the night in style. The Graceful Slicks are what happens when parents subject their children at a young age to their old record collection. The result is a five piece neo-psychedelic outfit. ''They clearly have a strong idea of where they want to go, and the evidence suggests it’ll be a pleasant place to follow them into'' - oxfordbands.co.uk Echo Boomer are Jonny Race (vocals, guitar, keys), Sam Race (guitar, vocals, keys) and Peter Oliver (drums, drum pads). They have done many headline and high-profile gigs, including supporting The Guillemots at a sold-out Brixton Academy and The Temper Trap at the Oxford O2. Echo Boomer also reached the final of The Next Big Thing unsigned band competition in 2009. betamigos will be spinning the decks with mixes spanning the genres of electro, house, breakbeats, indie and chillout. betamigos has been nurturing a love of dance music since the heady days of the 90s, taking influences from the likes of Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. Since then he has pleasured the ears of dance lovers at local festivals, clubs and student nights around Oxford. Download betamigos' podcasts here.
