The gallery has a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions which are planned 12 to 18 months in advance. We do not have a permanent collection. When and why are you closed in summer 2024?

Modern Art Oxford will be closed to the public from June to September 2024 as our ground floor spaces go through a transformational refurbishment. We will be keeping visitors informed about our progress on social media and via our newsletter.

Is the Café open?

Our Café is open Tuesday-Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday 10am-4.30pm and Sunday 12-4.30pm, serving homemade soups, sandwiches and salads, as well as teas and our special house blend of Lavazza coffee. Find out more on our Café page.

Why are you charging for some exhibitions?

Modern Art Oxford will have paid-for ticketing for an exhibition every 12-18 months. Modern Art Oxford has charged for exhibitions in the past over many years. However, in recent years our policy has been to offer free admission across most exhibitions.

Following a challenging time for the arts and culture sector, made worse by the pandemic, Modern Art Oxford will be presenting occasional paid-for ticketed shows to ensure our long-term sustainability and the continued excellence, ambition and reach of our programmes.

Income made from ticketed exhibitions will be used to further support our work with artists and audiences to enable more people to engage with our exhibitions and events on site, working in Oxford’s many diverse communities, and through innovative new content online. We remain completely committed to ensuring our programming is accessible to the widest possible audience, and occasional ticketed exhibitions will enable us to widen and extend the reach of our work in the years ahead, significantly strengthening the impact of our work as a publicly funded charity.

Will there be a charge for entry for all exhibitions now?

No, we will only be charging for one exhibition every 12 to 18 months, the majority of our exhibitions will remain free to enter.

Modern Art Oxford will continue to present free exhibitions throughout the year that represent our bold and progressive artistic ambitions, promote diversity and internationalism, and are accessible to the widest possible audience.
