She explores the everyday spaces in which we work and live, making particular reference to the often tense relationship between artist\u2019s studio spaces and the powerful influence of the commercial property market.<\/p>\n<p>The sculptures, veneered with a 5mm layer of timber lifted from the floor of Boyd\u2019s current studio, closely resemble furniture in cafes and offices in the area surrounding her current place of work in central London \u2013 a building temporarily consigned as studios for artists.<\/p>\n<p>The texture of the floor is engrained with the pockmarks and paint stains \u2013 evidence of the artist at work, and chimes with the current fashion for \u2018up-cycled\u2019 interior design featured in offices, shops and cafes.<\/p>\n<p>The surface of the floor is decorated with the remnants of materials used and discarded by the studio\u2019s previous artist occupants, each of them a temporary placeholder for prime real estate in the process of redevelopment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":53748,"template":"","event_type":[230],"audience":[],"class_list":["post-53747","events","type-events","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","event_type-archive","entry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 -
