Over a period of two years, artists in residence brook &amp; black have been<i>&nbsp;<\/i>developing a work that negotiated both sites. This activity resulted in a large scale sculpture, a limited edition beer, an artists\u2019 newspaper and several events at Modern Art Oxford and the Allotments which attempted to embrace diverse communities and to strengthen the overarching premise of the commission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>Art in Rose Hill <\/i>was launched as a pilot project in 2007 with funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Its aim was to increase opportunities to engage with the contemporary visual arts located on the Rose Hill housing estate in Oxford. The programme commissioned a series of temporary on-site works at Rose Hill by artists; Katy Beinart, Jo Huyg, Maria Pask, James Capper, Sarah Kenchington and arts partnership brook &amp; black.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Having spent time in the Modern Art Oxford&#8217;s&nbsp;archive researching the history of the building, originally a brewery in the 1800s, brook &amp; black began to grow hops on <em>Plot 16<\/em>&nbsp;over a sculptural frame that followed the architectural structure of gallery building, with the ambition of producing a dedicated beer from the crop.
