We know that exploring, sharing and celebrating the impact of Black heritage and culture is vital all year round. But Black History Month is also a valuable opportunity for individuals, communities, organisations and leaders to come together to keep educating, questioning and change-making. This year, we\u2019ve especially enjoyed hearing the voices of students who have joined us to speak about Black history across the education system, within arts and culture, and across society and the world at large. Celebrating A Black History of Art<\/em> with Alayo Akinkugbe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n As the founder of @ablackhistoryofart<\/a> on Instagram, Alayo Akinkugbe highlights Black artists and makers in response to her \u201cfrustration at the lack of Black representation\u201d in her own art history degree. Earlier this year, Alayo came to interview Samson Kambalu, the Malawian artist and Oxford University professor whose major solo exhibition at the gallery, New Liberia<\/em> explored the creation of an initiation ceremony for a utopia of international racial justice. The pair\u2019s thoroughly enjoyable and wide-ranging conversation touches upon Alayo\u2019s concern about low representation of Black artists in the curriculum and Kambalu reveals the personal impact the Black Lives Matter movement has had on his life and work as an artist and professor.
