To accompany her solo exhibition at Modern Art Oxford as part of Platform Graduate Award 2019, join Oxford Brookes University graduate Kulsuma Monica Khatoon in conversation with Aaron Williamson to discuss Monica’s Platform work Can You Say That Again? and to discuss social models of disability, the relationship between sight and sound, the power of communication and how the concept of “deaf gain” applies to the creation of art work.

Monica is a profoundly deaf artist whose work explores her daily struggle to understand and be understood.

Aaron Williamson has been a practicing artist and activist for 25 years, creating performances across the globe addressing ideas around the politics of disability, identity, isolation and access. His work stands out as being both political and humorous, focusing on his experiences since gaining deafness.

This event will be BSL interpreted.

Free, booking essential.

Kulsuma Monica Khatoon’s exhibition Can You Say That Again? is on at Modern Art Oxford from 3-13 October.
