In this gallery late designed for women, Modern Art Oxford associate artist Marlene Smith, together with Beverley Bennett and Karen Roswell, considers “the sound of paper” in relation to the exhibition A Slice through the World: Contemporary Artists’ Drawings.

Roswell was a participant in Smith’s 2013 study days focussed on the practice of three black women who draw. Drawing and its perpetual possibilities are central to Bennett’s practice. Together the collaborators will discuss the themes of Smith’s research. Participants are invited to join the conversation and take part in a practical drawing process inspired by Bennett’s  2017 work Amine. Bennett describes this work as “a tapestry of voices revealing the multi-faceted complexities and experiences of women today”.

Accessibility notice: This event is taking place in our fully accessible cafe on the ground floor, however there may be parts of the evening where participants visit the galleries. We regret that due to the installation of a new state-of-the-art lift that the galleries are currently only accessible via the stairs. Please read our full access statement for details.
