Modern Art Oxford Studio offers professional development opportunities for young people aged 16-21, and creative experiences for children aged 8-16. By working with schools and partner organisations, the studio supports a culture of learning and participation, and gives creative space for young people to map out pathways for their own artistic development in Oxford.
City as Studio
From November 2017 – June 2018 Modern Art Oxford worked with over 50 young people (16 – 18 years old) from two local state schools and a college to create photographic journeys through the city from the perspective of the students. This co-production has enabled an in-depth experience of making art, and the professional presentation of creative works. The resulting publication, City as Studio: Photographs of Oxford by Young Artists, invites readers to learn from their insights and is a creative response to vital questions for visual art.
Young Visiting Artists
Modern Art Oxford offers a range of creative projects and experiences for young people between the ages of 8-16 that encourage confidence and participation in art galleries. Our current project is in collaboration with Children Heard and Seen, a charity supporting children of prisoners who provide targeted activities in the children’s homes and community. The project aims to show young people what it’s like to work as professional artists within a gallery setting, highlighting that the arts are a viable career option.
