Maggie’s Culture Crawl – A partnership with Modern Art Oxford
This September, Modern Art Oxford will take part in 2018’s Culture Crawl, a 6-mile sponsored walk in aid of Maggie’s Oxford, a charity offering support for people with cancer and their families and friends. In this latest blog post, Pip Dingle, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Centre Oxford describes the significance of the walk and what participants can expect from the evening.
On Friday 28 September, over 200 people are expected to take on Maggie’s ‘Culture Crawl’. This is a 6 mile sponsored walk with a difference, taking in Oxford’s most fascinating buildings whilst experiencing culture, live entertainment, food and drink.
This year walkers will stop at Modern Art Oxford along the route, where they will view the exhibition, Future Knowledge. Walkers will be able to take part in a model-making workshop inspired by Maggie’s innovative tree house structure and learn how light, shape and colour can affect our environment. The Culture Crawl event helps to raise funds to support Maggie’s in Oxford.
Maggie’s offers support for people with cancer and their families and friends. The Oxford centre, built in the grounds of the Churchill Hospital in Headington, is a warm and welcoming place where anyone affected by cancer can access friendly and professional support. Everything offered at Maggie’s is completely free of charge and ranges from yoga classes to art therapy and group support sessions. Anyone is welcome to drop-in (on Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) for professional advice and support, or to find out more about our full programme of groups, courses and activities.
Art and architecture are central to Maggie’s. Each centre is designed by skilled architects, and every one is a unique place that’s been carefully crafted to fit perfectly within it’s surroundings. Good architecture and design is about making people feel at home, welcome and cared for; giving people a place where they’ll feel relaxed and able to choose what they do and when – something you don’t always feel when you’re in hospital.
“The whole building enveloped me in love. It’s bright, it’s light and the first thing you do is smile” Trudy, Maggie’s Centre Visitor.
We hope you’ll join Maggie’s and Modern Art Oxford this September. The Culture Crawl is set to be a great night out, all in aid of a good cause! Sign up today on www.maggiescentres.org/ccoxford
