Modern Art Oxford presents FIELD, an exhibition of major new work by acclaimed British artist Anne Hardy. Hardy makes environments which incorporate sculptural installation, photography and video.
The exhibition takes the whole gallery as a series of landscapes or ‘fields’; immersive spaces that Hardy constructs using wood, concrete, carpet and an array of other found materials. She also uses photography, text, light, colour and carefully composed audio landscapes. Her work includes objects salvaged from the streets, and references the fictional worlds of authors such as JG Ballard, Tom McCarthy and Haruki Murakami.
This work is intimately connected with the exhibition, as the texts on the wall are both fragments of the speech in one of the audio works that are currently installed at Modern Art Oxford, and also instructions for making sounds using various materials. The photograph was taken during Hardy’s residency an Modern Art Oxford last December, and as such, also forms an annotation to the performance work developed then.
