Modern Art Oxford’s 2008 exhibition presented the first-ever survey of Gary Hume’s door paintings, with a selection of 18 out of the total 50 in the series. The first door paintings date back 20 years, the originals being inspired by the institutional, swing doors of St. Bartholomew’s hospital which he measured, then reproduced life-size in gloss on aluminium and showed in the legendary Freeze exhibition in 1988.

The catalogue contains images of each of the 18 doors and two essays; one by artist and writer Thomas Lawson and the other by exhibition curator Suzanne Cotter.
