Since the end of the Civil War in the early 1990s, Beirut became a fertile ground for radical and innovative art-making and critical thought. This catalogue, published alongside the 2006 exhibition Out of Beirut, introduced artists living in the capital of Lebanon who work across the visual arts, film, performance and architecture, and asks questions about the role of art and artists within the context of changing societies.

Through newly comissioned essays and interviews with artists, this fully illustrated catalogue explores notions of mapping, excavation and reconstruction of the personal and the social sphere within the context of history, modernity and globalisation.
