This edition was created to coincide with the installation Displacement, exhibited in Modern Art Oxford’s Piper Gallery in 2013. Two stage lights – one green and the other blue – at opposing ends of the gallery created an invisible light sculpture – an infinitely thin 3 foot disc, green on one side and blue on the other – on their meeting in the middle of the space. Drawing on conceptual art practices of the 1960s, the work exists both in the imagination of the viewer and in reality, through the involvement of the participant who could make the light sculpture visible by waving their arm or placing themselves in the beams at the point at which they meet.
This edition stands as a visual chart of Tim Head’s Displacement sculpture, and the process that takes place when the two light beams meet, the layers seen colliding at the centre of the composition on a grey background made up of millions of pixels.
Edition of 50, signed by the artist.
