Join us for a special After Hours Book Club marking the gallery’s 60th anniversary.

This session is the first in a series of three Anniversary in the Archives book club sessions, bringing together key texts from across Modern Art Oxford’s exhibition history. The series invites collective reflection on past programmes, critical debates and the artists who shaped them, with a focus on internationalism, education and the foregrounding of visionary female voices.

Each session centres on a selected essay, offering a way into the gallery’s wider archive and its evolving curatorial approach. This first session focuses on The Ontology of Blackness: Reinventing Blackness in the 21st Century by Valerie Cassel Oliverexplored in the context of Along The Way (2005), the first UK exhibition of Kerry James Marshall’s work.

Tickets include a digital copy of the text in advance and a complimentary drink.

Please note: We’re offering these tickets on a pay-what-you-can basis (£9, £12 or £15), with higher-price options helping to support Modern Art Oxford as a charity and keep events like this accessible to more people.
