Foraging Connections

A collaborative exhibition blending art, science, nature and community.

The exhibition displays a collection of work created using foraged plants, transformed through ancient techniques such as cordage and weaving, to reflect the raw beauty and cyclical nature of the natural world, that is both ephemeral and enduring.

Since spring 2025, artists Lilli Tranborg and Arbie Edward have been working with children from local charity, Children Heard And Seen, at both Modern Art Oxford and Wytham Woods. Exploring the theme of connectedness, to both each other and nature, the workshops have encouraged a tactile engagement with natural materials in the spirit of innovation, inclusion and growth, and with a focus on the importance of trees and forests. During these workshops, a sculpture in Wytham Woods has been repurposed, to reflect on themes of refuge and repair, and will forge a connection between the woods and the gallery space at Modern Art Oxford.

This collaborative exhibition will be created as part of the Oxford North Engagement and Legacy Programme. You can follow the progress of the sculpture at Wytham Woods on Instagram.

Arbie Edward

Arbie Edward is an Oxford based artist whose practice is inspired by materials found, foraged or accumulated. Integrating their studies in physics, psychology and archaeology, they enjoy exploring connections between ourselves, our ancestors, nature and science, to create sculptural objects.

They use techniques from basketry, bookbinding, embroidery and weaving. Each piece develops organically and instinctively through the interplay of materials, techniques and processes. They often find the leftovers from projects as intriguing as the finished forms.

Lilli Tranborg

Lilli Tranborg is an Oxford-based artist and sculptor whose art is characterised by its organic forms, often inspired by natural shapes and processes and a deep respect for the material she uses. She explores the forest as a site of co-production of sculptural artworks, and uses moving image and sound to capture the human and non-human temporal engagement with her site-specific works. Her work sits at the intersection of socially engaged and environmental practices, exploring the intra-action between humans and the rest of the ecosystem.

Lilli Tranborg was born and raised in Sweden. She moved to England to study Computer Science at the University of Kent at Canterbury but after a career in the medical software development industry, she decided to pursue her lifelong passion for art and completed her Masters in Fine Art at Oxford Brookes University in September 2023.
