Film Screening: Ashkan Sepahvand: Seeking for Story

Ashkan Sepahvand, artist and Dphil student at the Ruskin School of Art, presents his film, Seeking for Story.

Seeking for Story is a film about how an archive embodies modes of encounter. The archive contains stories written by Ali Mirdrekvandi, a Luri peasant-labourer, and documents his unexpected friendship with John Hemming, a British lieutenant, during the Allied Occupation of Iran in WW2. Now in the Bodleian Libraries, the archive promises both a curse and a gift. Those who try to master it only find failure. Through a meeting with a scholar, dates with a dancer, and a ritual of performance, a subject seeks to transform history into mystery.

Please join us from 6.30pm. The film screening will take place at 6.45pm, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and post event experience until 8.00pm.

Free, booking essential.
