Make Play at Home: Chia Seed Slime

A green graphic with yellow and white hand drawn stars. Words in blue read: Make Play at Home, Chia Seed Slime

This Make Play at Home shows you a fun and simple way to make playing at home more sensory and exciting. This chia seed slime has an unusual, gooey texture that is difficult to describe. We love it because it’s environmentally friendly and taste-safe – a must for curious children! Once prepared this slime can be kept in the fridge for multiple uses.

What you will need:

  • ¼ cup Chia seeds
  • 2-4 cups cornflour
  • Food colouring
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Tray

Lets Play!

Step 1: Add ¼ cup of chia seeds to a bowl filled with ¾ cup of water.

Tip! Add food colouring to change the colour of the slime.

Step 2: Let the chia seeds soak for 2 hours at least. They will absorb the water and become sticky and gelatinous.

Step 3: Spread 1 cup of cornflour onto a tray. Scoop the chia seeds over the top.

Step 4: Start to mix them together. You can slowly add more cornflour to the mix to get the right consistency.

Step 5: Start playing!

Tip: With less corn flour the slime will be more sticky and fluid. With more cornflour, it will become more solid and easy to pick up. Experiment with the ratios to find your favourite consistency.

Remember, once finished you can store the chia slime in the fridge for multiple uses.

Note: This chia slime is safe for the little-ones who want to taste everything, eating large amounts of chia seeds can cause digestive upset.

Have fun playing! For more creative activities to do with your child, book onto one of our Make Play sessions. They start on 18 January offering sensory playtime for you and your child.
